Top Tips to Increase Your Alexa.com Rank

Alexa.com ranking is today one of the most important degree to measure your website’s success, for blogs as well as regular websites. Discover now some tips to boost your Alexa.com ranking.

If you’ve never heard of Alexa.com, allow me to briefly explain: Alexa Internet, Inc. is a company based in California, United States. It was founded in 1996, and is a subordinate firm of the more famous Amazon.com. It provides web traffic data for blogs, as well as commercial websites.

Alexa.com offers a toolbar too. You may install a single little Alexa.com extension, which doesn’t take your entire browser, or a long customized toolbar, which takes more space. Install now the extension from the following Alexa.com toolbar page.

You can install it on Chrome, Firefox or IE. The toolbar summarizes important statistics about the website you are visiting in a particular moment. The extension gives you a snapshot of:

  • Alexa.com (Global) Traffic Rank.
  • Traffic Rank in “Country”.
  • Number of reviews that a website has.
  • Number of sites linking in.
  • Search analytics.
  • Way-back machine.
  • Related links to the site.
  • Website’s fastness.

There is some debate whether Alexa.com is actually a good indicator of how a website is doing or not. Some people say it's just rubbish, and has nothing to do with SEO.

I partially agree with the above; however, the reality is: people look at it a lot. For instance, when you sell advertising space on your site, as a publisher you better have good Alexa.com stats, so to make your site more appealing to potential advertisers.

If you are serious about blogging, or otherwise your website, you have to take care of your Alexa.com Rank. Many webmasters, advertisers - perhaps SEO too - judge your site by looking at your Alexa.com ranking statistics.

How to Boost You Ranking

Some of the following may sound obvious. Nevertheless, some people still don’t know about Alexa.com, ergo I will include everything.

What to Do How to Do It
Account Open an account with Alexa.com, claim your website plus install the toolbar. That is pretty easy and straightforward.
Alexa.com Widget Get friends, family members to visit your website and use the toolbar while on your site’s homepage. The only problem is: they must have the extension on their browser in order to help you increasing your ranking. Alexa.com increases your rank just when other people visit your site and use the toolbar. What if they don’t have the toolbar installed? Get Alexa’s widget on your homepage, so - even if visitors don't have the toolbar - you’re sure your rank will increase after their visit.
Reviews Get people to write positive reviews about your site. Alexa.com increases your website’s rank if you have a lot of reviews about your website. Again, friends or family members can help, or maybe you can ask your followers, readers as well as subscribers to do so.
Organic Traffic (Free Traffic) Work on organic traffic too. Alexa.com weighs a lot the amount of traffic you get from organic sources, most of all when it comes from other bloggers.
Outgoing Links Make sure you build good quality and relevant outgoing links.
Content Write quality content on your site. Moreover, post good articles as often as you can. Alexa.com weighs a lot this too.
Backlinks Have a good amount of high quality backlinks. Alexa.com considers both no-follow as well as do-follow links.
Write about Alexa.com Write a post about Alexa.com on your blog. This is a little trick, but apparently works.
Social Networks Share your digital content on social networks. I do this nearly every day: I syndicate my articles on 3 Google+ accounts, 2 Facebook accounts, Google Currents, Twitter and Linkedin.

A Few Underground Extra Tips

As you understood from the above, you have a lot of work ahead in order to increase your Alexa.com Rank. However, there are some companies/websites that can do that for you on an automatic pilot. This is commonly known as traffic exchange, and may be sometimes a dangerous practice.

How does it work? Basically you open an account – usually free – and submit the URL of your site. The software will automatically visit hundreds of other websites in a single day. Since you have the Alexa.com toolbar installed on your browser, those websites will benefit from you visiting the site, because they have the toolbar installed too. This way their rank with Alexa.com will increase in a matter of weeks.

While doing the above, you earn points. The same process is applied to your website: since you have points, accumulated via your automatic browsing activity, other people will “visit” your site, always in the same automatic fashion, and you’ll increase your Alexa.com ranking too.

Why did I say it can be a dangerous practice? I’ll get this straight: if you have a website with, for instance, AdSense advertising/banners and you do traffic exchange – even though only to increase Alexa.com Rank – you’ll more than likely get banned, as Google doesn't endorse the practice.

Nevertheless, find below a list of websites that really can increase your site with little or no work at all:

  • Alexa.com Boostup.
  • Your Alexa.com Ranking.
  • Improve Alexa.com Ranking.
  • Up My Rank.
